Not every DVD design works without a glitch, as in the case of the Sony DVD release The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (March 2012) when the Sony design team decided to create a mock-up of a pirated disc, complete with title of film scrawled on the disc in black marker pen. Online retail giants Amazon were quick to place an addendum on their movie page to explain that the disc is in fact a genuine Sony release. The DVD rental company Redbox quickly followed suit.
A good DVD design should always be authentic but in the above case, perhaps a little too real looking. However, the case in point is that the unusual design of this movie has caused a stir in the marketplace and in that regard, perhaps the design has done its job.
